The demand for state of the art technology in the drilling equipment has dramatically increased owing to the tough competition in the sector. In parallel to efforts to answer this demand, Turkish government, through its NOC TP and research institute TÜBİTAK, has initiated an R&D program for the design and manufacture of a top-of-the-line 1500HP land drilling rig. The main objective of this Project is to develop a 350 ton capacity (1500HP drawworks), full automated, joystick controlled, AC-electric drilling rig. The rig shall be designed and built in accordance with the prominent international standards (i.e. API, IADC). This strategic project was awarded to a consortium piloted by Petrotek, in recognition of its know-how gained in over more than ten years. The project consortium is also included by Borusan CAT (Borusan Industrial Systems) for electrical works and automation systems and Atılım University for detailed anaylses and joint engineering studies. All manufacturing, functional testing and acceptance of the finished product shall be realized in Petrotek’s facilities in Konya, Turkey.
